What it means

Known as Sankofa, this is one of the most recognized Akan proverbs, often shown as a bird reaching back to retrieve an egg from its own back. It teaches that moving forward doesn't mean abandoning the past — you must sometimes go back and reclaim what was lost, forgotten, or taken, in order to move ahead wisely. It's the idea at the heart of this app's mission.
